Laurie Davis, eFlirtexpert. There’s a wine bar on practically every corner in New York. But just because there’s a couple smooching at the one in your ‘hood right now doesn’t mean that it should become your go-to date spot. In a social city, you’re not just judged on your kissability but also on the locale you choose.

I should know. As an online dating expert, singles sometimes hire my team and I to literally plan their dates. But in a city filled with hidden speakeasies, it’s impossible for even moi to keep up on all the restaurant openings. No, it’s not about going to the chicest-of-the-moment place, but it is important for me to stay on top of what’s best for would-be wooers!

Want to know my dirty little secret? Dipsology, a curated cocktail guide for NYC. We’ve partnered together for a Beauty, Cocktails & Dating event on June 11th dedicated to making NYC ladies lifestyles a little more fab. But in the meantime, I wanted to give you a sneak peek at five of my fave date spots based on vibe, including what to order when you’re there, straight from the Dipsology experts. Now go and get your drink on!

Casual Cocktail First Date: Middle Branch (154 E. 33rd St.)

You’ll feel like you’re in a cozy hideaway with no reservations required – this approachable speakeasy isn’t too over the top (or underground).

Date Tip: Since they don’t offer meals, it’s perfect for a first date because you can avoid that awkward “Should we get an appetizer?” conversation.

What to Order: Ask for the elegant Buzzword cocktail — even if it’s on the official menu. Pink tinged, cherry garnished and served in a champagne flute, it’s fruity and feminine without being overly “girly.”

Drinks … With the Potential for Dinner: Peels (325 Bowery)

The vibe is as airy and casual as if it’s your very own kitchen where home-style food abounds.

Date Tip: My fiancé and I love the burger here! It’s one of our favorites in the city.

What To Order: We love Peels Punch and My Darling Clementine, both brightly colored and light.

Romantic Second or Third Date: Raines Law Room (48 W. 17th St.)

It’ll feel like you entered someone’s very posh, prohibition-era living room with seating that’s perfect for canoodling.

Date Tip: Snag a more private spot where make out sessions are totally possible, since the wait staff only says hi if you ring the buzzer.

What To Order: Check out the menu section titled “Champagne Maintain”, which is head bartender Meaghan Dorman’s philosophy on “lasting all night and still staying a lady”.

Chic After-Work Drinks: The Lantern’s Keep (49 W. 44th St.)
Almost entirely comprised of tables for two, this Parisian salon-style locale screams date-night, not deal-night — a rarity in Midtown.

Date Tip: Reservations are a must, especially if it’s during the workweek. Hey, it’s still Midtown.

What To Order: Grab a glass from the Aperitif section of the menu, which features cocktails with lower alcohol content. Many are served in a tall glass, which makes for longer sipping. It’s also a great way to open up the palate for dinner, should drinks prove successful.

Best of Brooklyn: Maison Premiere (298 Bedford Ave.)

Aphrodisiacs are never far – 30 different varietals of oysters set the mood for your date in the back garden.

Date Tip: Oyster happy hour is on weekdays from 4 to 7 P.M.!

What To Order: If you’re feeling aggressive, the Maison Absinthe Colada is pretty amazing. For something less boozy, try the Pimm’s Cup or one of their Julep variations.
