AANY: How are you today?
Kerri: So far, so good. Last night was rough, Thursday night, but a good one.
AANY: What happened last night?
Kerri: Funny that you should ask. As an Uber New Yorker. I was at an uber hotspot called Catch in the West Village. One too many martinis- that’s exactly what happened.
AANY: Did you meet anyone interesting?
Kerri: You know it’s definitely like the swanky New York crowd. The new hot spot-have to get a table situation. My girlfriend and I always just go and pony up at the bar and we meet anybody that is around us. We talk to everybody.
AANY: Tonight I’m going to Joe’s Pub. Losers Lounge series Doobie Brothers vs. Steely Dan. Have you ever been?
Kerri: I love Joe’s pub. Do you know why? Because it is a very upscale, cool, intimate place to see music. So while you’re watching whatever live music it is or live entertainment you are being served jumbo shrimp cocktail and oysters. That’s my style, raw bar all the way. Joe’s Pub also has a very creative, eclectic line up. I was dating this country boy. I’m from Mississippi originally and so was he. He was crazy about any country music and we went to Joe’s to a series that was every Thursday. It was not the actual country music singers singing, but rather the song writers. It was kind of cool because you could hear where it all came from, and writers shared stories as they were performing.
AANY: Do you have a favorite dive bar? Mine is Jimmy’s Corner.
Kerri: I hate dive bars. While I consider myself somewhat of a guy’s girl, the stench of three day old beer that resides in dive bars always turns me off. To watch a good game, I like a nice bar, good bar stool and a real Bloody Mary made with tomato juice, not some premade bottle – ala Bobby Vans or Citto Nuova in East Hampton.
AANY: Who are you?
Kerri: I’m so glad you asked. Because this is one of my favorite topics! As I mentioned I’m from Mississippi originally. I moved to the west coast when I was very young, 18, living in San Diego. I learned to surf, and then moved to L.A. I did the whole acting, writing thing then moved to New York to become a Carrie Bradshaw. I actually got this job at Mobli because I started a little online dating show on Mobli, where I would talk about how fun it was dating in New York City. In L.A. dating meeting people is just not as assessable. People are not hands on; you don’t meet somebody and start a conversation. In L.A. if you do that they feel that you want something, where in New York people start a conversation because they’re interested in people and they want to meet more interesting people. AANY: So how is the dating scene in NYC, single?
Kerri: It’s easy if you just want to date. When I was single, I was brand new to the city and knew only one person, so my motto was to say yes to anyone who asked; be it a busboy or an investment banker.
AANY: Lucky busboys! What are you reading?
Kerri: Just finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, just started The Hunger Games. And in my mind, reading The Sunday NY Times is the equivalent of reading a good book.
AANY: Aloha.
Kerri: You were just saying you were from Hawaii which is amazing. The only time I’ve been there I went to do the Honolulu Marathon. So like an idiot, I get there after spending all this time training, six months going into it. The second I get there, I’m like, I have to surf. All my marathon friends are like, “No, no, no don’t do it until after the run” After the run? “My legs are going to be shot” So the first day I get there I don’t even check into the hotel. I drop my suitcase off at the lobby. I fish out my bathing suits and go across the street to some surf rental. I learned to surf in CA. It’s cold water. It takes days to get a wave. Here we are in Waikiki, where my Mom could get on a surf board and catch a wave. So anyway, I lump on this board and I literally catch the first wave and it’s breaking long and I’m enjoying the ride and then all of a sudden there’s this girl getting a lesson right in front of me. I have a marathon in four days. She sees me coming and she freezes, a deer in headlights. So I dive off my board and somehow I catch the fin. Where? On my shin. I have a gaping hole. I go to the E.R. The life guard takes me. Keep in mind again I had nothing on me. I didn’t have a towel. Here I am in the E.R. in a bikini, freezing. I had to get 10 stiches four days before the marathon.
AANY: And you still ran the marathon?
Kerri: I still ran the marathon. A couple of the stiches popped out. So I have a scare that will be with me forever.
AANY: So what do you do?
Kerri: I am a content manager at Mobli. That means that I am managing the site and looking for cool, interesting people to share their moments, their lives on Mobli.
AANY: Mobli has received some good PR recently.
Kerri: This week in particular has been amazing for us. Lance Armstrong just came on board. We have a handful of basketball players and other celebrities.
