It won’t quite feature British aristocracy but a new reality show plans to include a wealthy married couple from the Upper East Side, their kids, and household help too. The thus far unnamed show is hoping to be a New York version of ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ combined. Somehow the Upper East side doesn’t quite have that same ‘Downton Abbey’ ring to it, unless of course producers took The Met and Frick buildings, and put an ‘upstairs’ crowd living in as well as domestic staff.
The reason for this ‘Upstairs and Down’ programming desire is that ‘Downton Abbey’ recently became the most widely watched series in the history of PBS, and networks are eager to cash in on an Aristocratic theme. Stay tuned for more details about this new twist to an old theme of Master and servant. By the way, if you just happen to see any butlers walking around the UES why not test their skills and ask for a cup of tea. They might just be auditioning!
