Ask a New Yorker: What is Davidjr.com?

David Jr: Well it’s basically me and my camera and I just run around
this great amazing city. Whether it’s an art event, a fashion event, a
red carpet celebrity event, or I’m just going to the movie with my friends
or maybe I’m making a comedy skit. Pretty much whatever, just wake up
in the morning walk outside in New York city have my camera in tow with me everywhere.
I mean I take my camera with me more times then I take my bling belt buckle.

Ask a New Yorker: Time out. What’s a bling belt buckle?

David Jr: I really needed a logo for my work and really needed to show my domain
name and I was going through all these logos and font styles, everything and
nothing really did it for me. So one day a buddy of mine at work got a cheesy
belt buckle that I always seen people wear. It just struck me. Wait a minute.
My work is really parody even when I’m doing serious interviews, I sort
of parody what a real interview is and a lot of my comedy work is parody. So
I thought why don’t I get one of those cheesy belts and have that be the
actual logo? It really worked out. I mean, it’s nothing special.

Ask a New Yorker: It’s very cool. I’ve seen you wearing it at different
events. Didn’t even P Diddy make a comment about the bling?

David Jr: I said like,”Hey man do you like my belt buckle?” He
said, “yea”….I think he said ‘Yea, cool buddy”,
or just “yea”.

Ask a New Yorker: Could you be doing this in any other city, like L.A? Or is
it the energy of New York that sparks all this creativity?

Davis Jr: I don’t think so. I mean I heard about people who go to L.A;
you need to drive 5 miles to get anywhere. The advantage of New York City is
that I walk outside my door there’s stuff going on. There was a Bruce
Willis movie recently outside my door. It was just a random every-day thing.
It was nothing. Walk here come to beautiful Bryant Park, a few blocks away from
my apartment,. Time square is right here too….O.K it’s touristy
and really crowded, so what, I still love it. I love going to Dallas Barb Q
and eating in-between all the tourists.

We started talking in-between the interview and I totally agree with David
Jr regarding the ‘everything factor’ that he loves about NYC. Even
on this very hot muggy day while I’m dripping with sweat I’m still
digging walking the streets and just being here in the city. Anyway. I mentioned
my previous New Yorker of the month. on 42nd street across from Cipriani’s.

David Jr: So we just got started talking about the $100,000 tables at a Cipriani
event and I was like, “Yea, it would be like a Scientology event. I actually
met the dude at Scientology, one of the heads of it is John Carmichael. He’s
a really nice guy. And I ran into him at the “Mission Impossible 3”
screening, where I actually snuck through the back. Don’t tell anyone
that ? and you heard it here first. The video I made looks like I was legitimately
invited. He said something that is very true. I mean, I’m not a Scientologist.
But he said the thing about Mission Impossible with Tom putting ramparts to
the wall and just living life to the fullest…pretty much he said put yourself
out there….and see where the Velcro sticks. “Put yourself out there
and see where the Velcro sticks”. Actually that’s one of my taglines.
Another one is, “When your number is up, get a new number”. Another,
“2+2 can equal 3 or 5 depending on the speed at which you add them”.
The most popular one at the moment is actually a rip off from Time Cop but I
sorta made it my own, and I make it clear that it’s from Time cop,…”I
don’t bake cookies for a living”.

Ask a New Yorker: So there’s this issue of
July Interview magazine
on news stands right now, and you’re in it.

Davidjr: It’s called Web Superstars. I won the award for making people
talk, which is cool. Yea, a lot of mute people, I’ve actually…just
kidding….but you know I would really love to do something weekly. Maybe
Ask a New Yorker will come together with… who knows? I would love to do
a weekly thing with lots of cool stuff. That would be fun. And one video a week
isn’t too bad . At this time of my life, I’m really not sure where
the future lies. It would be cool to come together once a week for a fascinating
and great thing with some people. I guarantee the You Tube audience would love
it. I’m pretty sure New Yorkers would too.
